Chesnut springs the conclusion

Elikon was in a compound deep inside the area called sane dune ridge.  He knew that it was time to act. He looked froward to combating the marshal and to defeat him and those he represented.

The marshal and his team advanced.they were fired on by a mage who flew on a dragon.a dragon hit the team. One of the team members was fried. He was killed instently.

The marshal was not unfeeling. He was personaly affected by the loss they had already experienced.  He alao knew there would be more.  There was no time to mourn but later there would be. These were good people who had families.  They did not hesitate to join him.they would not be forgotten.  He would make sure that hapened.

The marshal was a good schot.he had to be. He stood by and took a schot. He waited. He took the schot.the dragon fell to the ground.the marshal and the pose kept going.

The mage heard the sound of the assult. He was not happy. It was time to get involved. No longer would he sit on the side lines. He would get involved. Elikon was at his heart a narcissist.  He cared not for or about anyone but himself. He did not even realy give a lick about his fellow mages. He was in life for himself. He was an ardent elikonest.

He threw off his robe. He jumped off of his pedistal. He had the large wand in his hand. He headed near the marshal. He serounded durgens.he bilocated hinself. He blocked the marshal.

“Marshal bryan durgens.face to face at last. Worior to warior!champion to champion!  One mans hero, one man’s villen. I have actually wanted to meet you. I dont like proxy wars. I see that they are necessary.  I perfer face to face.  Direct confrontation.  “Elikon said.

“This area is a lawless district. This area is legally owned by the federated states of anglomer. Your bericades are in violation of the perchase agrement with red ember colition .”the marshal said.

“I did not recognize the authority of red ember, or the authority of your so called federated states. This area is free soil. Owned by no one. I am a care taker. ” he said.

“You are harboring a fugitive. A man who threatened my life. I want him to face juatice. Let me bring him back. He is entitled to a fair trial. He will have a barrister and will be judged by a jurry of common people.  ” he said.

“F.s.a justice! You have no true authority.  You never have. I do not recognize any government.  I do not beleve in human government or laws. ” he said.

“Anarky foever?” bryan asked. ” marshal.  I dont like trespasing. I personaly do not beleve in land ownership.  It is antiqaited. I am a catetaker. I do not beleve i have the right to take a life but i will to care for this land.  Greyhorn is under my protection. I sugest you and your ilk leave now. ” he demanded.

“I refuse. I am a child of the lord. I reject magic. I beleve in law the rule of law. I beleve in a created order. I must take a stand. I will!” durgens said. “Very well!” he said.

They all took out the wand. Durgens had no idea if the other elikons could act independent of the maine one. Could they cause him harm. Were they solid or were they nearly projections?  He had no idea.

One of the elikons hit him with the wand. He dodged it. He roled around he ground.he knew he could keep this up foever.

While several bandits loyal to elikon fired with guns on the rest of the team. They held there own.

Tim had not seen action like this sense his days in the army. He had faught manny batles. Conventional and guerilla wars. He erned citation for valor.  His old tactics came back to him. Unlike earlier battles he felt a connection to what he was fighting for. This was for law. This was for principles. This was for chestnut springs and this was for lizzy. He beleved that this was a battle that had to be fought.  He was determined to prevail.

Choe could not beleve how much had changed in such short a time.she had been an outlaw.she had been in prison. Now she was fighting with the law. She felt good about doing this. She beleved that Elikon was wrong.  She beleved action had to be taken.

Dr. Brenen had served in the army before. He had been an army doctor and had served in the infanty.  He was surpised to find himself hear. He knew that he had to do this.

They fired on the bandts.right now they were  bandits with guns. They were not battling mages. At least not yet. That might come. They feared it would.

Bryan durgens had no idea what being hit by a waund would feel like. He really did not want to find out. He fired on a mage. The mage was hit. He seemed unaffected by the bullet. He had no idea which one is the real elikon. Mayby it was a projection.  He had no idea. He was trying to just endure.

Durgens tackled one of the mages. He went for the energy wand. He pushed it. The mage acidently burned himself. The mage vanished. He ran out of the circle.the mages vanished except for the maine one. They reorganized the bericade.

“You cant defeat me. You are are but a mere mortal!  I am stronger. ” elikon said. Durgens did not beleve that. He beleved the kund of power elikon sought was illegitimate, out of bounds. He could not beleve that elikon was invincible. Ekikon was flawed. He had to have a venerability.  Durgens just had to find it.

“I give you another opotunity to leave . i will gurente your safty and those who folowed you and your unenlightened views. “He said.

Durgens did not trust him. He beleved that he could bit be trusted evee. He was a lier,a ecosistical pragmatists.  He must always be viwed with this in mind. He did that.

He fired on the mage. He fired again. He dodged another energy berage. He jumped over one of the mage. Choe fired. “You keep save saving my life chlo!” he told her. “You dont owe me yet. I will let you know when!” she said.

The rest of the team tried to help out choe and the Marshall. The bandits made that dificult.

“Why stop us elikon? You cant care about a petty thug?”he remarked.”the order of the mages has dwindled. Monothism has sweped the land. Magic is striking back. We wont go qietly a big fight is coming. An even bigger one.” he remarked.

He went for one of the wound. He tried to wrestle it from the mage.the orther mages tried to shield him from the marshal.the rest of the team ran interference for durgens. Durgens threw the wand into the river. It fell to the bottom.

The lead elikon threw his wand into the tower. The tower exploded. The fire spred. The team had to run for there lives. Elikon was forced to revert to one person.  He ran away.

Durgens ran futher into the compound. He was going to get what he came for. He was going to aprehend greyhorn. No matter what it took.

He figured he was in the maine house. He ran towards it. He saw a mage guarding the entrence.he had a large wand.”you shall not enter!”he said.

Sudenly reverend luter went up and tore the wand form his hand. He broke it in two. The mage ran away in fear. “What are you doing hear.i never expected a minister to be hear. “He said.”this is not mearly a physical battle but a spritual one. ” i can hardly sit on the side lines on this one. I will not engage in war fare but i will not alow the mages to maintain there control of this reigion either. “Luter said.

“Thank you reverend.”he said. “Of course.”he said. “I can handle it from hear. “He said. “You sure?”he asked. “Yes it is not safe form now on!”he said.

He kept going. Greyhorn fired on him. He fired back. “Come on greyhorn! The mages have abandoned you. The f.s.a have this building surrounded.  “He said.

Buz fired on the marshal. The marshal dodged the bulet. It was not as dangerous as the energy from the wand but he did not want to get schot again. He fired back.

“I am not giving up.”he said. “You dont need something as silly as this to take you down. It was a threat it is not that serious. “He said.

“The lawless dont want to be reformed. We want the chaos. We can sort out our own afairs. Figure out our own destiny. We dont need the f.s.a or your God or anything to do with you.”greyhorn said.

The marshal fired on greyhorn. Greyhorn was hit in the knee. He fell. He got up. It was mearly a flesh wound. “Give up!”he asked. “Never !i wont give up!” he said.he fired. The scooter fired on the marshal. He dodged the fire. He fired back . “stand down greyhorn! “He said.”no not going to happen!”he declared. The marshall hit the schooter.

The pose and reinforcement arived to take charge of the esate. Revetend luter and his fellow ministers tore down the magic paraphenelia.  The magic set up was torn down.

“Thanks for your help!”the marshal told him. “Happy to help. Can i help more?”she said. “We will see. Lets take it one step at a time.”the marshal said.

“Why do i think i have not seen the last of elikon?”he asked. “You have not. I am sure of that.  He will be angery. He will strike back. This was importent. “He told the reverend. “I will stay on my toes”the marshal said. “Good.”luter said.

At the mane part of the town the mood was fastive. They were happy that the mage was gone for now. The marshal knew he would be back. Nicky came over to him. She was holding leah. He picked the baby up.

“What if i stired up a hornet nest? What if i made things worse?”he asked. “There will always be push back. You had to take a stand. You started something. A schot heard around the outlands.”she said. “I hope so!”he said.

He walked futher into town. There was a series of claps and chears. The people of the town stood up for there town. He was concerned but he was pleased. Perhaps this was a new beginning.

The federated sates of angloomer was a rising power in the atune continent. The nation was starting to expand.  Without the political will or financial means ,the red ember an intercontinental coiliton sold a reifon of space kbwon as the outlands to the f.s.a. the outlands were lands that were foreboding and harsh. It was difficult to grow anything.  Although the lands were oficially controlled by the red ember, that was in name only.

In reality the outlands were rylled by two groups. One was outlaw gangs. Gangs who filled though superior fire power. They had a might makes right mentality. The other group was the mages.

The mazes were those who practiced magic. In anglomer, catolon, red ember and nearby crember, magic is ilegal. Anglomer is committed to anti magic. The goal of the FSA in the outlands was to reconstitute the region into member sates of the federation. The federation was a free society but neseity forced the outlands to be under an emergency order. The military and the marhsal service . many of the gangs had been broken up. Many still refuse to accept f.s.a rule. This included the mages.

A man rode though the frontier. It had been houses sence he left the inner federation. He was now in the ocupupied outlands. Many of the outlands was ungoverned. Some say it was ungovernable.

Marshal Bryan durgeen tried to maintain his composure. He had the power of a judge ,police and a military governor. That ment little to the law breakers of the outlands. If an outlaw found him, they would not hesitate to fire on him. He did want to speculate on what a maze would do.

Durgen had been though worse in his life. He had been a sholdjer. He had served in war and peace time and had engaged In police actions. He knew how go handle most situations. He knew if he hesitated even for a split second, his life could be over.

He kept riding. He felt like he was being persued. He pretended like nothing was a miss. He kept on going. He had no idea when they would strike. He was confident that they would strike. He was determined to be ready.

Unlike some of his orther marshalls,he actually paid attention to the breffings back in federated city. He had memorized the route from the federated proper to the command post in chestnut spring. He had a photographic memory. He could see the picture of the route in his head. He knew that he was near a series of boulders. A dead end.

He suspected that whoever was tailing him was doing so in order to ambush him. Durgen was going to try to turn the tables on them. He suspected that they had no idea that he was a law man. They probably assumed that he was a rich travaler. All he had on him was a few dollars and a series of federation vouchers that the bandit’s would find useless. They might kill him just for the insult. He suspected that that they were pery thugs and not part of a major crime syndicate.

He rode right for the large rocks. There were a series of large boulders. The flat area between the rocks were narrow. He would be venerable. He was traping himself. He had no where to go. This was the only wah to draw them out. He heard the sounds of horses. There were seven in all. There were five males and two females.

“There is no where to run boss!” The lead bandit declared.he started to climb one of the rock face. It was not quite a mountain. It was a little larger then a simple hill. The thugs neared the rock. They had to dismount. One of the women had to gaurd the horses. The rest started to climb the rock. He ran and jumped off of the rock. The thugs never got a chance to climb the rock. He charged the outlaws. He fired his rifle in to the air. The horses were spooked. The horses started to run off.

Durgen schot one of the thugs in the leg. He hit another outlaw in the back. Durgen was an excellent schot. One of the gunman got on his horse. He tried to ram durgen. Durgen fired on him. The man fell off of the horse. He was killed instently.

Durgen was fired on. He had to dodge several schots. He roled around the ground and fired back. The ring leader got on his horse. He fired on the Marshall. Bryan ran on to the horse. The horse was spooked. The horse ran with both still on it. Bryan pushed the bandit to the ground. Durgen himself was pushed off of the horse. He was a little swore but otherwise was fine. The ringleader famed himself into the Marshall.

The bandit tried to punch him. He matched his punch. He hit the thug hit him with  the but of his riffle! The thug head butted him. Durgen fell back. He kicked the man in the shins. The man  was in pain. He took his rifle and fired.the man was dead. He let the two women go. He should try to aptehend them. They would not elude justice forever. He was out in the open hr had no back up. He had to get to the command post. This was indeed a dangerous place.

He kept on going. He rode on for a few hours unhindered. He made it to a check point. He went to a booth. It was maned by a single man.an oficial of the f.s.a government. He was part of the department of the interior. “Durgen f.s.a Marshall. ” he said. He showed the clerk his paper work. “Your a ways away from chessnut spring Marshall. ” the clerk said. ” I have yet to take up residence. I just got my commission. ” he said. “Be carefully. This area is known for bandits. ” the clerk said. “I am keenly aware of it. ” Bryan said in response.

He signed the paper work. “Good luck Marshall. Your going to need it!” The clerk said. ” anything else I should know!”he asked. “Bewhare of the silver maze. ” he said. “I will. ” he said. Then he rode off.

The Marshall kept on riding. It went from day to night. It became dark. He had grown up in the city of Charliebakersville. He loved night in the city. Even with the signs of industrialization it was beutifull.  While in the wirkderness it was beutifull natural. It was a lie. There were a thousand ways to die. He knew how to survive. He had to. Hus adult life had been spent on battle fields. He was ready.

He heard the sound of a horse coming for him. He got his gun ready. He rode towards the horse. “You want me come and get me! ” he said taunting the other rider. The rider rode to him. Some called the time between one am and five the hour of the wolf.  Many claimed to see a wolf man hybred who tried to eat then. Many chalked it up to a hilucinstion of an embodiment of ones fears. The danger Bryan was about to face was not a wolf but a human. He was up to the challenge.

End of part one.
