Prime Minister of america

George Washington 1789-1796 

Former general. Hero of the French and Indian war and American revolution.he was opposed to a Parliamenary system of government but was overuled. Asked to serve as prime minister under a coilitian government. Ruled behind the veil until elected in a bi election. Relected.did not run for election I. 1796. 

Two John Adams conservative party 1796_1800

Lawyer,member of continental Congress. Elected to Parliament. Wanted to lead Parliamenary. Agreed to let Washington lead coilitian government. Served as foreign minister. Came in first in a hung Parliament. Invited to form unity government. Murged with Thomas Jefferson and the liberal party. Scandal over convert spying called XYZ afair. Party lost to liberal. Resigned as leader. Left Parliamenary.

Thomas Jefferson liberal party 1800_1809

Although much if Jefferson ideas were rejected,he decided to work within the system. Jefferson was not present at constitutional convention. Jeferson was elected to Parliament. Wanted to from first government but supported the Washington government.served as minister of war. Served as foreign minister under Adams. Was reluctant to support Adams government but agreed at urging of Washington. Party  came in first but did not win minority.formed coilitian government. He perposer buying Louisiana territory from France. The purchase was heavily debated but passed. Jeferson led part to the first minority government. Decided not to seek another mandate. Replaced by James Madison. 

James Madison liberal 1809-1816

Wanted to write deceleration of Independence. Madison was criticized by Christian for his secular views. He did write non binding opinion peace .Did not attend constitutional convention. Elected to Parliament as a member of liberal party. Served as Parliamenary secretary to the war minister. War minister under p.m Adams. Served as foreign minister to jeferson. After British blockade of ships,Madison declared war on Briten.parliment building burned down. Negotiated end of war. Decided not to seek another mandate. Replaced by  James Monroe. 

James Monroe liberal 1816-1824

Prisoner of war during the revolutionary war. Member of parliament. Replaced Madison as leader of the liberal party. Led party to two government. Drafted Monroe doctrine that stated that america would stay out of the affairs of eroype. Europe still in turn stay out of the affairs of the new world. 

John quncy Adams independent liberal party 1824-1828

Son of John Adams. Lawyer. Member of parliament. Opointed to the Senate. The liberal party split apart. John quncy Adams led one faction. Adams had been known for his opposition to slavery. The Adams faction won a minority government. He was able to cobble Together a  government. America celebrated fithty years as independent country during his government. His farther and Thomas Jefferson died during his government. The quncy Adams government was very unpopular. The faction led by Andrew Jackson won the next government. Adams returned to parliment as a back bencher. 

Andrew Jackson independent liberal  1828-1836

First peasant to lead government. Served in military . Veterinary of wars with Indiens and British. Retired as a general. Appointed to the Senate on the reccomenation of Prime minister James Monroe.  Tried to convince the speaker of Commons to ask him to form a government.j.q Adams was able to form a government. Jackson was able to form the government in 1828.He wanted to be known as the prime Minister of the common man. He opened up the parliment to coming person.he set up a big block of cheese in the lobby. It backfired and he decided against it. His ida of a central bank had to be scraped after the Senate refused to adopt it. He servived an assasination attempt during question period. His health declined towards the end of his mandate. 

Martin Van burden. Liberal 1836-1840

Van Buren Was a secret advisor to Andrew Jackson.  Later elected to parliament .Served as foreign minister in the second mandate. Replaced Jackson as liberal leader. Elected to own mandate. Due to economic dipresson,he was very unpopular. Lost bid for second mandate. 

William! Henry Harrison whig 1840-1840 

Military officer who served in numerous campaigns form war with Britten to indien wars. He was the first prime Minister to have never been in politics before leading the parliament. He was recruited by the new whig party as an compromise . He had no political paper trail. He was seen as a unity campaign. Elected to load whig and won the right to form a government. He became ill after insisting on being shown in outside in the looting rain. He died a month later. Replaced by Treasury minister John Tyler. 

John Tyler whig

Tyler was a member of Parliament. later a senator.saught the whig leadership. Lost to general Harrison. Endorsed Harrison. Elected to house and became Treasury minister and deputy prime Minister. Became prime minister upon death of p.m Harrison. Disliked by whig party. Tried to act like he had a  mandate.replaced as party leader. Whig party lost in the next election. 

James k Polk liberal 1844-1848 

Polk was a former member of  Parliament who served as speaker of the house . He was elected to the tenise legislative Assembly and served as premiere of tenise. He ran for leader of the liberal party as a reformer. He had a platform of increaing America ‘s borders and prominence. Elected prime minister.foughtwar with Mexico.expanded territory. Declined to run for another term. Party lost power to Zachery tayler and the Whigs. 

Zachery taylor 1848 whig party

The slavery issues threatened to tear America apart. It also threatened the whig party. Like they did in 1840 they saught a consensus candidate. They found him in general Zack tayler. Tayler ran a positive candacy both for leadership and the general election. It had little susbstence. It highlighted his military carer. He died of food poisoning a month into his term.he was replaced by millard fillmore. 

Mildred Filmore whig party 1848-1851 

Fillmore was an accidental prime minister.  With a bad economy, everyone who could be something decided to sit it out for a while. Filmore was not popular in or out of his party. He was replaced as leader right before the election. The whig lost power. This was the last time the whigs won a  government. They would soon disappear as a party. 

Franklin pierce liberal 1851-1855 

Pierce served in the cabinet of James k Polk. Pierce was elected leader of the liberal following there defeat in 1848. Pierce tried to present himself as the interelecual sucessessor to Polk. He pledged to recreate the Polk government. Elected pierce was very unpopular. Slavery was threatening to destroy the nation and the party. Pierce was forced to resign as leader of the liberals.  The liberal tried to get pierce to return as leader but he declined. 

James bucanon 

Former member of parliament and minister under Polk ,he was elivated to the Senate just before Polk steps down as leader. Buckanon was able to win leadership of the liberal. He was elected to the lower house in a liberal safe ryding in pensavania. He struggled to keep the party together. While the new conservative party tried to derail the parliament as well. John c Fremont and abe Linkin tried to get the speaker to ask the Tories to form a government. Buck was able to keep the party together until the next election. The south would not join Steven Douglas a former Illinois senator and instead nominated John c brekenridge. The conservative s won the government. Most of the south formed the American confederation. The speaker considered dissolving the government and holding new election with the new structure. Linkin convinced him to allow the government to be seated. There would not be another liberal government until 1884. 

Abraham Lincoln conservative 1860-1865 

Born in the province of Kentucky. His family ended up in Illinois Provence. He served in the federal parliament for one term. He servded in the provincial assembly even ran for leader of the provincial whig party but lost. He ran to succeed John c Fremont for the Tories. He won. He was elected to the house in a bi election. The Tories won. The south suceded. Linkin demanded that the south pay for bases they had capture. They refused. Linkin tried to capture fort sumotor. The result was a schooling war. The south was wining the war. Many urged onion to noviciate an end to the war. He consided doing that but then the north score a victory at getyburg. The liberal chose former general McKellen to lead there party even though he disagrees with the party platform. Linkin and his party won another mandate. The south were defeated and general Lee surrendered at apametox. Linkin was schot shortly after the war ended. 

Andrew Jonson conservative 1865-1868 

Andrew Jonson was a former liberal member of parliament. He crossed the isle at the urging of Linkin. He held the cerimonial post of deputy prime minister. He became prime minister at the death of Linkin. He had little support. Edwin santon tried to force him out,many in the Tory caucus were Leary of santon. They kept Jonson in power long enough to recruit a better choice for leader. With the election of former general ulisias s grant Jonson stepd down as prime minister. He did serve in the Senate before his death. 

U.s grant conservative 1868-1875

Grant was a graduate of West point. He served during the Mexican war. He was a little known colonel before the at. He was able to replace Mccelen and turned the war around. He is credited with wining the cival war. He had a reputation for excessive drinking. Many saw him as unqoth.he served as foreign minister but was not a member of the house. He resigned in order to keep santon from leading a revolt against Jonson. Grant was a no a member of any patyy during the at. He voted for the liberal candidate form his pensivana ryding once. He was elected leader replacing Jonson. He won the right to form a government. There were charges of corruption. He won a second mandate. The party was not happy with him. They secretly works to convince him to step down. Rutherford b Hays took over.
